Brian's and Sherri's Yard -- North Carolina. Acrylic on canvas, 13 in. x 17 in., $600. A snake wound from a brush pile at my back. I got flickering glimpses of it passing over and under last year's fallen leaves. Apr. 28, 2003.
Brian's and Sherri's Yard 2 -- North Carolina. Acrylic on canvas, 17 in. x 13 in. $600. Kept losing paint tubes in the leaves. The sun was nearing the horizon so light changed rapidly and added an urgency to the painting.
Cascade Creek -- Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia. Acrylic on canvas, 13 in. x 17 in., $600. Slept until 9:00, then hiked down to the falls and ate breakfast. It seemed odd to start by walking down hill. Angie tried to study, but surrendered to scrambling on the boulders.
Auf Ice -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on paper, 22 in. x 32 in., $900. Storm clouds very near, lightning flashes followed by thunder and a light rain composed of drops the size of my little fingernail. My pants were soaked after wading through thigh-high willow.... I wonder about the archival properties of mosquito laden acrylic paint.
Passing Storm - Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on canvas, 22 in. x 32 in. $900. Purchase via ArtiqueLtd.com. A quick cup of hot chocolate then a hike along a trail that ends just above the conver· gence of the Takahanne and the Tat· shenshi· ni. I painted a low hill topped with spruce surround· ed by willow. A small copse of rich yellow aspen stood just beyond them.
On the Blackstone -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on paper, 15 in. x 22 in., or 23 in. x 30 in. framed, $750. Swans on one lake a loon calling from another. Frantic Wilson warblers gleaning in the willows. The rain was persistent. I set the umbrella up for the first time this trip.
Chuck Creek -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on paper, 30 in. x 22 in., or 38 in. x 30 in. framed, $900. I timed the passing of the sun behind the peak for two days. I started the painting two hours before and painted furiously to catch the desired light as the mountain blocked the sun for a few minutes.
Quill Creek -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on canvas, 22 in. x 32 in., $900. Very cold clear moring on Quill Creek. Sun turned aspen and willow ablaze.
Samuel Glacier IV -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on canvas, 22 in. x 32 in., $900. Snow showers regularly obscrubed the glacier and mountain tops. We didn't know whether to call it a day or wait it out.
Samuel Glacier V -- Yukon, Canada. Acrylic on canvas, 22 in. x 32 in., $900. After days of cold wind driven rain the promise of a change in weather.
Wright Pass 11:44pm -- Northwest Territories, Canada. Acrylic on paper, 22 in. x 32 in., or 30 in. x 38 in. framed, $900. Expansive valley was spectacular, the wind staggering. I found shelter in the lee of a cluster of boulders. No mosquitos. 12:30 at night and hours left to paint.
