Painting during one of my annual trips into the Canadian North. Landscape painting challenges, renews, and surprises me. It takes me out of the studio. I become a participant asa well as an observer. It draws together my love of hiking, kayaking, watching wildlife, and painting. Working with changing light and weather conditions, no-see-ums and cold fingers, creates a sense of immediacy and presence that is different than creating illustrations in a studio.
